S2E5: Coffee with Gabi! Doing the Thing You're Scared to Do but Know You're Supposed to Do

See this content in the original post

Welcome to another Coffee with Gabi episode of Pain to Passion Live!

Let's have a little chat about getting the courage up to do the things you're scared to do but that you know you're supposed to do. It's pretty likely that you've been called to do something that seems a little (or a lot) scary for you. Resistance to what you're meant to do is really really normal. What isn't normal is intentionally walking into that fear and moving through it to do the thing…that’s what will set you apart.

What might you miss if you don’t do that scary thing? What might you find out about yourself if you DO?

I share a story of how this has played out in my own life that I hope REALLY encourages you - the story of how I started speaking in public. It's really kinda cool :)

Tell me what you're gonna go out and do now! Take courage!

(The song I mention in this episode is The Voyage, by Amanda Cook...it's so good definitely go check it out!)

Gabi: [00:00:00] Hello, my loves, it's me, Gabi, and I am actually sitting in the parking lot of a Starbucks in downtown Spokane. So you'll probably hear some traffic and things. Um, but what a perfect place for me to record an episode of Pain to Passion Live and a Friday episode that's Coffee with Gabby, cuz I'm about to go in here and have coffee and.

Think about all of you on the other side of this podcast listening to my voice. Let's have a little chat today. I wanted to talk today about entering into those spaces where you know that you're called, but maybe you feel. Intimidated or uncomfortable to inhabit those spaces. And I wanted to share a little story about what that has kind of been like for me.

So for a long, long time, I have felt like I'm supposed to [00:01:00] be speaking on stages and speaking at events and all these speaking things, right? But. The problem was I was absolutely terrified of public speaking, which I know is pretty typical. Um, but it kept me from speaking. It did. It kept me from speaking up, speaking out, and speaking in front of others.

However, I was presented with an opportunity about, I would say, probably eight years ago at this point, to speak at an event. For the first time, like ever, that wasn't like a public speaking class, and I said yes immediately because I knew in my heart that this was something God had called me to do. But I was scared.

I completely over-prepared, which is also very normal when you are just starting out as a speaker. But I'm majorly over-prepared. [00:02:00] I basically memorized my entire talk. But the day that I was gonna speak, um, it was at my workplace and I was gonna be speaking at four and work started at eight. So I had eight hours to be getting nervous and pondering and all of these things.

And I actually had to drive someone to the airport that day. After I dropped them off, I just put my, um, iPhone on, shuffle on my playlist and, um, It played a song, and some of you may know this song, but the words of the song, um, by Amanda Cook said, speak even if your voice is trembling, please, you've been quiet for too long.

Believe it will be worth the risk you're taking. What if the path you choose becomes a road? What if the ground you take [00:03:00] becomes your home? And when I say that, those words just like broke and smashed my heart open into tears pouring out of my eyes. That's totally what happened in the car. They're with the very voice of God speaking to me through these words of this song.

Speak even if your voice is trembling, please, you've been quiet for too long. Believe it will be worth the risk you're taking. And I have found that to be true time and time again. And in fact, it's those things that have seemed the most scary and the most terrifying. But the things which I know that I'm called to.

So I say yes, those are the things that have changed my life. They have changed my life because I have seen how God shows up when you say yes. So I'm [00:04:00] wondering like, what do you need to say yes to today? Where do you need to say yes? What is a place where you need to speak even if your voice is trembling?

And please, you've been quiet for too long. People need your story. People need to hear what you have to offer. People need the gifts that are on your life that you may not even be aware of because you've been too afraid to just try. I encourage you to try, and I also wanna just say and throw out there like still to this day, I get nervous when I get up to speak, but I've channeled that as like, you know what?

This is an excitement about this opportunity where I get to use my voice and it's going to bless someone's life. By the way, I am available to speak at events. If any of you listening, um, [00:05:00] do women's events or work at self-development events or churches or anything like that. I would love to be considered to speak at your events.

Um, I speak obviously about dream chasing, about drama recovery, nervous system, regulation about faith and believing in God even when the going seems so tough and you're living in the valley of the shadow of the death. I speak about the dark night of the soul. So many different things, and I would be honored to come and speak to your crowd and your people.

Um, and for all the rest of you listening, just remember that you've been feeling an urge in your heart to do something for a reason. I encourage you to take the first step and maybe that path you choose will become a road, maybe that ground you take. Will become your home. I love you guys. Thank you as always for listening.

If you're enjoying this podcast, please rate and review. It will mean [00:06:00] so, so much to me.
